GFFJ NGO Grants & Awards

The GFFJ Annual NGO Grants & Award was held during the GBR Thanksgiving in December 2018. The GFFJ initiated the NGO Grants & Awards and awarded the following Non-Governmental Organisations with R100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Rand) each.

  1. Africa Cooperative Action Trust (ACAT) – Lilima Swaziland (Highers scored for Assistance)
  2. Itireleng Multi purpose workshop for the Blind – Soshanguve, RSA (2nd recommended)
  3. Rena le Lona – Creative Centre for Orphaned Children – Soweto, South Africa.
  4. Autism Lesotho – Maseru, Lesotho
  5. Jam Foundation – South Africa

This process was overseen by the following independent panel of adjudicators:

  • Advocate Thabo Seneke: (Chairperson), advocate of the high Court of South Africa
  • Pastor Neville van Wyk, Executive Pastor at Rhema Bible Church.
  • Ms Mosima Ramogale:
  • Mr John Moalusi.

They were supported by the following GBR secretariat members:

  • Alice Mothiba-Dladla
  • Lesego Thathane
  • Fumani Shikwambana

The Independent Panel of Adjudicators as set out at the beginning of the process was for them to:

  1. Review the Nominated NGO’s
  2. Request for further information where necessary
  3. Pose probing questions to the prospective recipients
  4. Ensure Due process is followed
  5. Advice the Secretariat
  6. Make Recommendations of Organisations based on their findings

The process framework followed is listed below:


  1. Announcement The announcement inviting NGO nominations and submissions was done in February and the deadline was on 8 April 2018.
  2. Submissions Submissions took place between February – April 2018.

Several efforts and extensions were granted to all institutions that were nominated and/ or (self) submitted to supply all and/or any outstanding documents necessary for consideration by the interim, internal GBR preselection committee.


  1. Internal selection process The internal selection committee met and developed a framework and matrix for the internal selection processes, external selection panel as well as NGO site visits. The Internal Selection Process identified and established a selection panel who were fully independent of GBR and GFFJ at the time.
  2. Matters to be considered includes the training for NGO’s, the involvement of more GBR leaders in future processes and researching into similar award programmes .
